Kijang Innova will be the best-selling car throughout 2023. What’s the secret?

The Toyota Kijang Innova displaces the Honda Brio at the top of the list of best-selling cars in Indonesia. Innova sales are based on wholesale data released by the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).

Throughout 2023, Toyota will distribute 66,460 Kijang Innova units to all its dealers in the country. Especially the Zenix variant, makes quite a big contribution. For your information, Toyota is also still marketing the Innova Reborn with Spot Order status.

This score also made the Kijang Innova overtake the Avanza, which often dominates the top of the list of best-selling cars in Indonesia. Toyota revealed several reasons that make Innova the people’s first choice.

Quoting the official Toyota Indonesia Pressroom page, there are several advantages presented by Innova, especially the Zenix model. The first is the use of the TNGA platform: GA-C. The Kijang Innova Zenix specifically uses the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform: GA-C with a monocoque structure that replaces the ladder-on-frame. Meanwhile, the Innova Reborn still uses the IMV platform like the Fortuner and Hilux. The use of a new platform makes the car more rigid and reduces noise in the cabin. The car’s weight has now been reduced to 170 kg.

Innova Zenix also carries the M20A-FKS Dynamic Force engine which is claimed to offer optimal acceleration while consuming more economical fuel. Meanwhile, the hybrid version is equipped with an M20A-FXS engine combined with a compact electric motor. This engine is paired with a K120 CVT transmission which adopts a 10-speed Sequential Shiftmatic mode.

Toyota Kijang Innova’s become the best-selling car

Thanks to the use of a new platform, the Innova cabin is more spacious. This is a factor that increases the comfort of the driver and passengers throughout the journey. The features in the Innova are also no less important. Innova Zenix is equipped with a sensor and radar-based Toyota safety system, namely Toyota Safety Sense 3 which consists of Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) & Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), and Automatic High Beam(AHB).

No less important, the resale price also plays a role. In Indonesia, resale price is an important factor that people consider before buying a car. PT Toyota Astra Motor Marketing Director Anton Jimmi Suwandy once revealed that the Innova is a model that has quite a high resale value. Even the hybrid model also has good resale value.

“Mainly Avanza, Innova. Why, because the Kijang is decades old, the Avanza is relatively decades old,” explained Anton last October.
